In 2016, more than 24 billion gallons of fuel were consumed in the United States by all end consumers, including airlines, the military, businesses and aviation. According to the FAA`s aerospace forecast, 21.17 billion gallons were used by civil aviation aircraft. By 2020, the fuel requirements for civil aviation aircraft will be nearly 23 billion gallons, and by 2030 they are expected to reach nearly 26 billion gallons. Therefore, the demand for jet fuel is large and growing and is large enough to provide an attractive market opportunity for sustainable AJF production, to begin moving petroleum-based fuel. Northwest Advanced Bio-Fuels is developing refineries for second-generation commercial fuel, with the first project being developed in the Pacific Northwest.
